The Company
GroceryShare, LLC is a mobile app created to make grocery shopping more affordable, reduce food waste, and bring people together. It helps individuals — especially singles and seniors — split large items and bulk deals with people in their neighborhood and community. Families looking to stretch their food budgets are welcome too. The app’s users are our community members.
The Founder
That would be me, Kathy — a 70-year-old single woman, an avid gardener, and a passionate cook. I retired from a 40-year career as a marriage, family, and child therapist in the nonprofit sector, working with thousands of people ages 3 to 85 and from all walks of life.
I’ve seen singles, seniors, and families struggle to make their food budget last. GroceryShare was designed around stretching food budgets, human connection, sustainability, and practical kindness — rather than profit at any cost.
Why GroceryShare Exists
Rising food prices make grocery shopping a challenge for the ever-growing single and senior population. Bulk discounts and family-sized packages are cost-effective, but they do not suit people living alone or older adults on limited incomes. The result? Either people pass on items they would love to have, or they buy too much and throw the excess away. People should not have to compromise on the food on their table while struggling to cover the cost of housing, gas, utilities, and taxes.
And social isolation has become a global epidemic. People should not be so damn lonely. In this fast-paced, social-media, swipe-right world, there has to be a way we can connect. So, beyond cost savings, GroceryShare seeks to develop a community that values collaboration over consumption — helping consumers shop smarter, live lighter, and connect with the people in their community.
The Solution
GroceryShare makes it simple and safe to connect with community members to split large and bulk items. Members can browse, post, or accept shared-buying offers, and arrange to divide the items and costs. It’s sort of like a dating app… but for groceries. The app can create ongoing sharing relationships, or it can be a one-time deal and not go any further. (You know, like some dates.)
Why It Works
GroceryShare addresses three real and pressing issues:
- Affordability: Managing inflationary food costs through shared purchasing.
- Sustainability: Reducing food waste at the household level.
- Connection: Providing safe social interactions that help ease loneliness.
Our Mission
Our mission is to ease food budget stress, reduce waste, and build a sense of neighborhood connection — especially for singles, seniors, and those most affected by rising food prices and social isolation. And while the target group is seniors and singles, parents are all too often isolated too, and also struggle with rising food costs. Every decision at GroceryShare reflects one core value: people before profit.
